In an effort to contribute to environmental restoration and sustainability, the Department of Botany at the University of Chitral organized a plantation drive on 11th July 2025, following the directives of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The drive aimed to plant fruit-bearing and indigenous trees as part of the larger campaign to restore nature and combat deforestation in the region.
The plantation drive was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Hazir Ullah, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Chitral, who set the tone for the event by planting an indigenous fruit-bearing tree in the university lawn. Dr. Hazir Ullah expressed his support for the initiative and praised the Department of Botany for its efforts in restoring the environment..
A large number of fruit-bearing trees were planted across the university lawn as part of the event. The plantation drive was attended by key faculty members and administrative officials, including Dr. Sanaullah, Head of the Sociology Department, Dr. Nizam, Additional Director of Academics, Dr. Saiful Mujahid, Head of the Economics Department, Dr. Nadeem Hassan, Head of the Urdu Department, and Dr. Yasir Arafat, Deputy Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and Mr. Mustafa Kamal, Assistant Director of Administration.The University of Chitral team extend special thanks to Ajaz Ahmed, Assistant Director NTFP for his continuous support in providing plant saplings.
The focal person of the plantation drive, Acting Head of the Department of Botany, Madam Uzma Sher, played a central role in coordinating the event. She also participated in the plantation by planting a fruit-bearing sapling alongside the attendees.
The plantation drive successfully engaged university staff, faculty, and students, reinforcing the institution’s role as a leader in environmental education and activism.
